State Budget
Every year, the Governor and State Legislature adopt a budget that represents their policy priorities and values. The budget is a combination of state and federal funds that provides a framework and funding for public services. A general budget timeline is below.

By January 10th | Governor’s Budget | Governor proposes a budget and expenditure plan for the upcoming fiscal year. |
February | Analysis of the Governor’s Budget | The Legislative Analyst’s Office provides a thorough analysis of the Governor’s Budget. |
Mid-May | May Revision | After most taxes are filed and the General Fund revenues are updated, the Governor issues a revision to the January budget. |
Late May or Early June | Legislative Budget Proposal | Legislative Leadership and the Chairs of the Committee on Budget release their version of a balanced budget. |
Late June | Budget Act | This balanced budget represents an agreement between the Governor’s May Revision and Legislative Budget Proposal. |
