Partnerships to Support Early Care and Education

The childcare workforce in Santa Clara County has long been affected by a severe and persistent shortage of early educators, which the pandemic further exacerbated. In 2022, OCFP developed contracts with FIRST 5 to implement initiatives to address this shortage and support workforce development of the early care and education field. These strategic efforts will increase families’ access to quality childcare, particularly in areas that serve low and middle-income families.

Childcare Apprenticeship Initiative

A no-cost college program to support professional pathways for licensed childcare teachers to enter the quality early care and education workforce.

Family Childcare Home Provider Shared Services Alliance Initiative

A design team composed of family childcare home providers builds the infrastructure support needed to retain their workforce, as well as hosts the first local professional conference for their field. This video contains English subtitles over the parts in Spanish.
